Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a non-invasive and preventative approach to health management. By using an health promoting model that is individualized, evidence-based and patient-centred, our naturopathic doctor (ND) uses a bright approach to help you achieve your health and wellness goals. Based on the health concerns and symptoms presented, our ND utilizes a variety of treatment modalities including clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, acupuncture, cupping, homeopathy, and lifestyle counselling to support each patient and their unique needs.

Clinical Nutrition

Nutrition is the basic foundation to everything we do when it comes to our health and well-being. Our Bright naturopathic doctor focuses on this central tenet to create nutrition plans that fit your lifestyle at the same time as addressing presenting symptoms and health concerns. Through a comprehensive review of your day-to-day dietary choices - for example, water intake, protein consumption, and prioritization of nutrient dense foods, to name a few - our naturopathic doctor will work collaboratively with you to optimize your diet and help address any nutritional deficiencies or food sensitivities to have you feeling your best.

Botanical Medicine

Botanical medicine, also known as herbal medicine, refers to the use of plants to help treat diseases and maintain health. Naturopathic doctors study the medicinal properties of plants extensively and employ this knowledge to help treat a wide variety of acute and chronic health issues. Botanical medicine can be administered in different forms, like teas, tinctures (concentrated herbal extracts), capsules or topical preparations.

Pediatric Naturopathic Care

Our naturopath provides primary care for a wide array of health concerns that your child may be experiencing, including skin conditions, gastrointestinal issues, ADHD, asthma, ear infections and sleep issues, to name a few. So, whether there is need for increasing immunity to prevent colds and flus or building mental health resilience, our naturopath will use safe and effective treatments such as nutritional supplementation, herbal medicine, homeopathy, and dietary guidance to help your child feel healthy, happy and bright!

Acupuncture & Cupping

Naturopathic doctors are trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine, including acupuncture. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body to simulate the flow of Qi (energy) and restore balance to the body’s systems. A naturopathic doctor may use acupuncture for many concerns, including pain, stress, anxiety, digestive issues, and infertility. Cupping therapy is the application of therapeutic cups on your skin to facilitate healing and minimize discomfort. It is often utilized to help improve blood flow and alleviate musculoskeletal tension and pain.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy, or homeopathic medicine, is the practice of using minimal doses of a substance for therapeutic purposes. More specifically, when a substance that causes a certain symptom is diluted down, it can be used to treat the symptom it initially caused (also known as the Law of Similars which can be translated as “like cures like”). Our naturopathic doctor uses homeopathy to compliment nutritional, botanical and lifestyle treatments. Homeopathic remedies work great for children because they are safe and effective when treating cold symptoms such as cough or runny nose as well as baby colic and teething.

Lifestyle Counselling

Lifestyle counseling is an important aspect to naturopathic medicine that focuses on addressing lifestyle factors contributing to health concerns. A naturopathic doctor will act as a motivator and instructor for implementing healthy lifestyle choices. A key principle of naturopathic medicine is individualistic care, an important consideration when it comes to making lifestyle changes. By meeting the patient where they are, realistic and attainable goals can be set and met.
